I once heard a story—told as true—of something a fireman found in the aftermath of a forest fire.
When he came upon a heap—he kicked it to see if any smoldering ashes lay beneath.
What he found instead—as newly hatched baby chicks scampered off—were the remains of a mother bird.
She had gathered her young beneath her wings to protect them from destruction.
She had paid the high price and sacrificed her life as the heat of the fire consumed her.
The message this sends can also be found in the very heart of God's Word. (See Matthew 23:37)
There is no safer place to be than under His wings when the fiery trials of life pass by.
If we are willing—He has and will take the heat to protect us.
Like a mother hen—He longs to gather us under His wings.
